Physiotherapy FAQ
Do I Need a Doctor’s Referral for My First Physiotherapy Appointment?
You can book a physiotherapy assessment directly for some pain and rehabilitation needs. If you have severe pain, cannot bear weight after injury, obvious swelling or deformity, numbness, marked weakness or a complex condition, an orthopaedic assessment is recommended first.
How Long Does a Physiotherapy Appointment Take?
Appointment length depends on the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation needs. A first appointment usually involves a more detailed history, movement assessment and treatment planning; please ask the clinic when booking.
Is Equipment-based Treatment Always Needed?
Not necessarily. Physiotherapy commonly includes assessment, manual therapy, exercise therapy, education and home exercise. The use of shockwave therapy, acupuncture/dry needling or other equipment depends on individual needs.
When Can I Start Physiotherapy After Surgery?
This depends on the type of surgery, your doctor’s instructions, wound healing and stage of recovery. Your physiotherapist will plan suitable rehabilitation according to these factors.
Do I Still Need to Exercise at Home After Physiotherapy?
In many cases, home exercise is needed to gradually improve movement, strength and function. Your physiotherapist will teach suitable exercises and adjust them as you progress.
What If Pain Gets Worse After Treatment?
Mild short-term soreness can occur after treatment or exercise. Stop the activity and contact your physiotherapist or doctor promptly if you develop severe pain, numbness, marked weakness, worsening swelling or progressively worsening symptoms.
Can I Use a Medical Card or Insurance?
The clinic supports major medical cards and insurance arrangements. Please confirm your cover with your insurer before booking; receipts or supporting documents can be requested from the clinic.
